The Bean takes the trackpoint idea, a small stick you push with a fingertip, and turns it into a standalone USB device. A magnetic sensor samples the stick at over 1000Hz with 12-bit resolution, which is how it registers motions down to a few microns, and four Omron switches sit under the stick for clicking. Everything is open-source: the firmware, the files, and a 3D-printed case you can reprint when it wears out. At 52 grams it lives next to a keyboard rather than in a mouse shape. Buy it if you loved a trackpoint and miss it; skip it if you have never used one and do not want to learn.
